Checking in with Debbie – our Liaison Officer

Kia ora kotou,

What has the Liaison service been up to this month!!

It has been a very busy time all round but one of the biggest issues facing people at the moment is securing safe, appropriate and affordable accommodation. We have supported a number of people into emergency housing this winter and it seems that this number is likely to increase as the affordable housing market gets ever smaller.

Another area of note is the increase in the support we provide for people to fill in a Lotteries application for a mobility scooter. With the average cost of a scooter sitting around the five-thousand-dollar mark, the scooters are out of reach for many who live on a benefit. The scooters support individuals to maintain independence and continue to participate in the community. Not all applications are successful as there are limited funds available and an increasing demand on this resource.

We are looking forward to the month ahead as the weather warms up and the days get longer.
