Check in with Vicki !!

August is shaping out be a busy month for the Education Service!

It was great to present our Concussion in Schools education programme for the first time. The programme is made up of an interactive presentation which teaches children about Concussion, what it is and what it can feel like. The main message we want the Tamariki to take away is “STOP!” and “TELL AN ADULT” which we loudly promote throughout the presentation.

We also give out take home resources to encourage the children to talk to their Whanau about what they learnt with us. Our first presentation was to Camberley School where we educated 95 Tamariki, we will be going to St Mary’s, Parkvale and Mayfair School’s over the next couple of weeks, by the end of August we will have educated over 1,000 Tamariki!!

I was very pleased to be invited to speak at 2 meetings at Sport HB, I spoke to a group of 22 youth council members and 20 high school sports coordinators, these were great opportunities to educate about concussion and let the sports coordinators know about the education service we can offer to their schools.

I’m looking forward to seeing what September brings!!
